French Language Minister Jean-François Roberge announced on Sunday that Quebec will invest $603 million over five years to address the decline of the French language in the province.
He was joined by Immigration Minister Christine Fréchet, Culture Minister Mathieu Lacombe, Higher Education Minister Pascale Dery, Education Minister Bernard Drainville, and International Relations Minister Martine Biron, all of whom are members of the task force for the future of the French language.
The French language plan in Quebec includes nine priorities, including annual monitoring of the linguistic situation indicators in Quebec, increasing the percentage of economic immigrants who know French, and speeding up the process for foreign students graduating from French-language programs to obtain permanent residency.
Minister Roberge's office stated in a press release: "From these nine priorities, 21 measures are already in place or will be announced in the coming months to ensure the future of the French language."
