The spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majid Al-Ansari, stated today, Wednesday, that Doha is very optimistic about extending the truce between Israel and "Hamas" once again, and that negotiations are taking place in a positive environment.
Meanwhile, CNN network pointed out that international mediators are pushing for an extension of the agreement as the truce between the parties Israel and Hamas enters its last day on Wednesday.
In his talk with a CNN correspondent, Al-Ansari said: "We hope to be able to release the last batch of prisoners within two hours, but we will also be able to announce the extension (of the truce)." He added: "We are very optimistic that we will have good news to share today."
Al-Ansari also said that negotiations are ongoing, adding that any new extension would be according to the same standards as previous agreements. He pointed out that the negotiations are taking place in a "positive environment," explaining: "We are talking about a war zone with many complexities on the ground."
He also said that the release of adult males and Israeli Defense Forces soldiers was a topic of discussion and they could be released in the near future.
He also added: "We have prioritized those most at risk among the prisoners regarding women and children who are given priority. We are moving towards releasing the civilian men and then conducting longer discussions about soldiers [of the Israeli army]."
According to Al-Ansari, longer discussions are also underway regarding the release of the detained Israeli soldiers, alongside the possibility of mediating a "longer truce" that could "lead to a ceasefire."
The Qatari foreign ministry spokesperson did not confirm whether there are any American prisoners on the list to be released on Wednesday, replying: "I cannot comment on that now for the safety of the detainees and for the success of the exchange operation today."
The truce between "Hamas" and the Israeli government continues for the sixth and final consecutive day after being extended for two days under the same conditions.
Prior to the end of the truce between Israel and "Hamas" on its fourth day, the "Hamas" movement announced today, Monday, that "an agreement has been reached with the brothers in Qatar and Egypt to extend the temporary humanitarian truce for two additional days under the same terms as the previous truce," and the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs also confirmed reaching an agreement to extend the humanitarian truce in the Gaza Strip for two additional days.
