The German Airports Association, which represents the airport industry in Germany, said that more than 1,100 flights at 11 airports in Germany will be canceled or postponed tomorrow, Thursday, due to a strike by airport security staff.

The association stated that an estimated 200,000 passengers will be affected due to the delay or cancellation of flights during the one-day strike.

The Verdi labor union had called on workers of private aviation security companies at 11 major airports in Germany to strike, amid collective bargaining negotiations between employers and workers.

The airports affected by the strike include Frankfurt, Hamburg, Bremen, Berlin, Leipzig, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Hanover, Stuttgart, Erfurt, and Dresden airports.

German airline Lufthansa said on Wednesday that it intends to continue operating most of its flight schedule tomorrow, Thursday, despite the strike, although passengers will not be able to access security services or board flights at the affected airports.

However, Lufthansa said most of its long-haul flights will continue as planned, even at its main hub at Frankfurt Airport, and the company will also provide shuttle flights to transport passengers.

Lufthansa's secondary airport in Munich was not affected by the strike, and flights there are expected to continue relatively smoothly tomorrow, Thursday.

Lufthansa said that passengers on domestic German flights can exchange their tickets and receive free train tickets, regardless of whether their flight will operate or not.
