Saudi Arabia urged today, Monday, the countries that suspended their funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East "UNRWA," to "fulfill their supportive role for humanitarian missions" towards the population of the Gaza Strip.

In a statement issued by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Kingdom emphasized "the importance of the agency continuing to carry out its duties, ensuring the provision of basic requirements for the Palestinians."

Riyadh renewed its expression of "deep concern" over the worsening humanitarian crisis in the besieged Gaza Strip, "due to the blatant violations" by Israeli forces "of international law and international humanitarian law," according to the statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Israel had accused 12 employees of the United Nations agency "UNRWA" of involvement in the attacks of October 7, which ignited the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip.

Following the Israeli accusations, several Western countries announced the suspension of their funding to "UNRWA."

However, Saudi Arabia stated that it "is closely monitoring the international repercussions" regarding this issue, stressing the "importance of enhancing review and investigation procedures into these allegations to reach facts supported by evidence."

On Sunday, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on donor countries to "ensure the continuity" of the operations of "UNRWA" after many of them suspended their funding to it.

Guterres confirmed the inclusion of 12 agency employees' names in the Israeli accusations, on which the United Nations has opened an investigation. He explained that nine were expelled, one was killed, "while the identities of two others are being verified."
