Qatar's ambassador to the United States, Sheikh Mishal bin Hamad Al Thani, said that his country is subject to a misinformation campaign regarding its role as a peace mediator in the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, pointing out that the opening of a political office for Hamas in Doha was at Washington's request.

Sheikh Mishal bin Hamad Al Thani wrote in an article in the "Wall Street Journal" that Qatar does not want another war in the region, adding, "Our goals have been clear since the beginning of the current conflict, which are securing the release of hostages, establishing humanitarian corridors for essential aid to Palestinian civilians, ending the bloodshed, and preventing further escalation."

He also added, "Over the past two decades, our country has gained a good reputation in mediating complex conflicts, and lasting peace can only be achieved by building trust and understanding. The foundation of our success has been our ability to deal with all parties."

He continued, "In the wake of the escalation in Gaza, Qatar has been in contact with all parties to urge calm. Our international partners, such as the United States, asked us to mediate to secure the release of more hostages. We have engaged with Israel, other countries, and Hamas. The release of many hostages as a result of Qatar's mediation is a positive step, but the situation remains sensitive."

He also said, "Therefore, it is very concerning that false narratives about Qatar appear in the media with a clear intention to escalate the conflict. These narratives create obstacles to constructive mediation efforts and aim to derail the negotiations."

The Qatari ambassador to Washington considered that "almost as soon as the conflict began, Qatar became the target of a continuous misinformation campaign regarding the nature of its role as a peace mediator in the region."
