The French security authorities closed the "Eiffel Tower" in Paris to the public today, Saturday, after evacuating it as a precautionary measure following a "bomb threat," according to a source from the French police as reported by the "Reuters" agency.
The security alert led to the evacuation of 3 floors of the tower located in the heart of Paris, a major tourist landmark in France that attracted 6.2 million visitors last year.
For its part, the body managing the tower stated that bomb disposal experts and police are inspecting the place, including a restaurant located in the tower.
A spokesperson stated: "This is a standard procedure in such situations, but it is rare to occur."
Visitors were evacuated from 3 floors and from the plaza located beneath the tower.
The construction of the Eiffel Tower dates back to 1887, and the building work was completed in March 1889, receiving two million visitors in the same year.
