CBC News learned that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's vacation over the Eastern weekend in Montana cost taxpayers nearly a quarter of a million dollars, which is more than the amount reported to Parliament.
The price of the trip from April 6 to 10 amounts to $228,839 when including the costs of the Canadian Armed Forces, the Privy Council Office, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
This amount does not include the regular salaries of RCMP officers assigned to protect the Prime Minister, or a crew from the Royal Canadian Air Force, or a Privy Council official who typically accompanies the Prime Minister with the necessary equipment for secure communication and speaking.
This figure is higher than the amount the government reported to Parliament two weeks ago.
In response to a question from Conservative MP Luke Berthold regarding the request paper, the government revealed that $23,846 was spent on the trip by the Canadian Armed Forces and the Privy Council Office.
The low cost also does not include the $204,993 spent by the RCMP on overtime and expenses such as accommodation, meals, emergency expenses, and travel related to Trudeau's vacation.
This cost was only disclosed this week, in response to CBC News inquiries to the police forces.
