The French Parliament witnessed heated discussions regarding the spread of 'bed bugs', as the opposition member from the "France Unbowed" party, Matilda Bannot, brought a bottle filled with bugs into the parliamentary chamber and accused Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne of negligence in handling this issue, despite previous warnings.
She addressed the Prime Minister, saying: "Should we wait for the bed bugs to spread inside the Matignon Palace before you take action? This is a national public health issue, but you have done nothing... I warned you since 2017, but you laughed in my face and did nothing!".
She also added: "Madam Prime Minister, after six years, your inaction is largely responsible for this situation."
The deputy called for an effective public service to combat pests free of charge, ensuring health and the environment.
It is worth mentioning that 'bed bugs' have invaded many areas in the French capital, Paris, and social media users have shared videos of the insects in the Paris subway, trains, and at Charles de Gaulle airport, with testimonials confirming their presence in cinemas, libraries, and other places.
