Jean was honored for her career as a journalist, the 27th Governor General of Canada, UNESCO Special Envoy to Haiti, and the third Secretary General of La Francophonie.
To celebrate International Women's Day, the City of Ottawa will present former Governor General Michelle Jean with the key to the city as a symbol and recognition of her long career.
The presentation will be made at the annual International Women's Day breakfast at City Hall on Tuesday, March 8, by Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson and Councillor Theresa Kavanagh, Coordinator of the City Council for Women and Gender Equality.
A city official said Jean was honored for her brilliant and distinguished career as a journalist, the 27th Governor General of Canada, UNESCO Special Envoy to Haiti, and the third Secretary General of La Francophonie.
