The city of Ottawa has issued a warning to residents about new scams requesting that residents pay fines via text messages.
The city of Ottawa stated in a post that residents have reached out to inquire about text messages asking them to pay amounts for speeding fines.
The post said, "We have heard reports of suspicious text messages requesting payment to the City of Ottawa for speeding violations."
The city clarified that it will never contact residents via text messages to request payment.
