Ottawa: School buses cancelled due to expected freezing rain this afternoon

Roads will be icy in the capital later today - as the Canadian Ministry of Environment issued a freezing rain warning in Ottawa.

Freezing rain is expected to begin this afternoon and continue until the evening, with 5-10 mm of ice accumulation possible in the capital.
 

On the other hand, there is also an active warning for freezing rain in Pembroke, Renfrew, Arnprior, and Calabogie.

School buses have been cancelled throughout the Ottawa capital area and in the Renfrew area.

Today's weather forecast for Ottawa is cloudy skies with a 40 percent chance of sleet this morning,

and freezing rain will start this afternoon, where temperatures today will be 0 degrees Celsius, but it will feel closer to -15 degrees Celsius this morning with the wind chill.

The freezing rain will also turn into rain near midnight, and it is expected to end after midnight.

Temperatures will drop to -3 degrees Celsius tonight.

Tomorrow's forecast also indicates a 40 percent chance of snow gusts and the risk of freezing rain.

The weather on Wednesday will be stormy with winds expected to reach speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour.

Temperatures will be -5 degrees Celsius, but the cold winds will make it feel closer to -20 degrees Celsius in the afternoon.

Sunshine and a high temperature of -8 degrees Celsius are also expected on Thursday.
