Firefighters in Ottawa rushed to the fire location in the south of the city on Wednesday morning. The fire broke out in a large two-story commercial building on Cleopatra Drive, near West Hunt Club Road, after 7:30 AM.
Officials said flames and black smoke were seen coming from the roof at the back of the building. No one was inside the building, but firefighters had to deal with electrical hazards on the roof. In a press statement, the Ottawa Fire Service said the fire appeared to have started in an air conditioning unit on the roof.
Some sides of the building had to be removed and parts of the roof opened to allow firefighters to reach flames that had spread inside the walls. The fire was under control by 8:44 AM, but firefighters remained at the scene to check for hot spots. No reports of injuries were received.
