The Ontario Provincial Police has announced the start of an investigation into the behavior of one of its officers after a video posted online showed an officer exchanging security information about the Prime Minister with protesters.
A social media post also mentioned that the incident occurred during Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's visit to Alliston, Ontario, last Thursday, to announce the new Honda electric vehicle manufacturing plant.
In the video, an officer can be seen approaching the protesters, expressing his support for them, and telling them the direction in which the Prime Minister's convoy was heading.
In an online statement, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said, “The video raised concerns about professionalism and portrays views that are not in line with OPP values.”
It added, “The police respect everyone's right to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, and they also respect the rights of the public, local residents, and elected officials in a safe environment.”
The police also confirmed that they take the incident seriously and it is under review.
