The World Food Programme warned on Sunday that despair is driving the people of Sudan to eat grass and tree leaves, while malnutrition among children has reached alarming levels.

The UN program added in a post on its account on the "X" platform that it is urgently expanding "the provision of its emergency food assistance and working around the clock to distribute food supplies across the country."

It also noted that "despair is driving the people of Sudan to eat grass and wild tree leaves," according to Anadolu Agency.

The World Food Programme highlighted that "malnutrition among children in Sudan is reaching alarming levels."

Since mid-April 2023, the Sudanese army, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces, led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo "Hemedti," have been engaged in a war that has left around 15,000 dead and more than 8 million displaced or refugees, according to the United Nations.
