Durham Regional Police investigators are now present at Clarington School. It is the central high school in Bowmanville following a threat on social media.
The police say the suspect has been identified, and there is no threat to public safety. Officers will remain at the school as the investigation continues.
Footage of the conversation shows that the threat was made on Instagram, where an unnamed user claimed that he would go, carrying ballistic shells, to the front of the school's main office. In the conversation, he added that they are "not playing," and warned people not to come to the school on Friday "unless you want to be in all the media then."
The Instagram profile has since been deleted.
Clarington Central High School says it is working with the police to ensure the safety of students and teachers.
The police remind that the school remains open.
This investigation at Bowmanville High School comes after an incident on Thursday in Scarborough, where several schools were closed following a shooting by Toronto Police of a man believed to be armed with a rifle.
For his part, Police Chief James Ramer said the armed man was confronted by the police and that the Ontario Police Watchdog is handling the case.
