Patrick Brown's lawyers have given notice to the Canadian Conservative Party that they intend to appeal the decision to exclude him from the party leadership race.
Lawyers Mary Haneen and Alex Smith, in a letter sent on Wednesday to returning Chief of Staff Don Nightingale, stated that they intend to appeal his decision to recommend to the Party Leadership Election Organizing Committee (LEOC) to exclude Brown.
The lawyers wrote in their letter, "To be clear, Mr. Brown did not commit any misconduct at all."
Explaining, "Your refusal to specify the allegations on which your recommendation is based proves this. He has refuted the trivial information you provided and repeatedly requested details."
They described the process of excluding Brown as "absurd" and "politically motivated," and said it has a "predetermined outcome and does not align with the values that this party should uphold."
The lawyers also described the matter as "extremely disturbing, as Brown only learned of the recommendation from media reports after it was accepted by LEOC and advised the party to retain all documents and records related to Brown's removal as the basis of the matter and may now be the subject of anticipated litigation."
