Four people, including a gunman, were killed in a shooting on Wednesday, and others were injured in a medical complex in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA.

The assistant city police chief, Eric Dalglish, told reporters that "so far we have four civilian deaths, one dead shooter, and we believe he committed suicide."

He stated that police units intervened immediately upon receiving a report that a man armed with a rifle and a pistol stormed the second floor of one of the buildings in the Saint Francis Medical complex.

Meanwhile, Tulsa Police Chief Richard Molenburg told the "ABC" television station: "Four were shot dead. One died after leaving the scene to seek medical help, and one of the four is the suspect."

Molenburg had earlier told reporters that security forces were dealing with a "disastrous" situation as "several" people were shot and there were "a number of injured," without specifying their number or the severity of their injuries yet.

According to the assistant police chief, the entire attack took about four minutes from the moment the police received the first report until the exchange of fire between officers and the attacker, explaining that "the police searched every room in the building to ensure there was no threat."

For his part, city council member Jamie Fowler, speaking to a local TV channel, indicated that the shooter committed suicide.

Meanwhile, the White House announced that President Joe Biden had been informed of the incident and ordered any possible assistance to be provided to local authorities.

A Chronic Plague

This incident came about a week after the massacre at an elementary school in the town of Uvalde, Texas, where 19 children aged between 9 and 11, and two teachers, were killed by an 18-year-old young man who entered the school armed and opened fire randomly on those inside, before being shot dead by the police later.

Gun violence and shootings in the United States are a chronic plague and a tragedy whose chapters keep repeating. Every time such an incident occurs, there is a renewed debate about the spread of firearms, but no progress is made in this regard.

Many Americans refuse to give up their constitutional right to bear arms, while Biden has called to end what he called the "gun lobby."

On Monday, the American president pledged to "continue the pressure" to impose stricter controls on buying and possessing firearms, a matter that remains difficult to achieve given the narrow Democratic majority in Congress.
