New Brunswick reported five additional COVID-19-related deaths in its weekly update.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, 456 people have died in New Brunswick due to the virus.

The data in Tuesday's report covers the period from August 7 to 13.

Hospital admissions in New Brunswick have stabilized, with 20 new admissions during the seven-day period. As of Tuesday, 27 people were hospitalized due to the virus, five fewer than reported in the previous weekly provincial update.

There are four people being treated in intensive care. Most people admitted to the hospital due to COVID-19 in the province are in their seventies and eighties.

The province says unvaccinated people against COVID-19 have the highest rate of hospital and ICU admissions for COVID-19.

The number of new PCR-confirmed COVID-19 cases declined from 742 last week to 675 this week.

As of Tuesday, there were 993 active virus cases in the province.

There was an average of 95 new COVID-19 cases daily in New Brunswick from August 7 to 13, compared to 99 cases last week.

New Brunswick health officials provided a recent randomly sequenced sample to better understand the COVID-19 variants currently present in the province.

0 percent of samples are BA.1 2 percent of samples are BA.2 0 percent of samples are BA.3 12 percent of samples are BA.4 86 percent of samples are BA.5 Vaccinations as of Tuesday, 93.5 percent of people in New Brunswick have received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, 88.4 percent two doses, and 53.3 percent have a booster dose.
