German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will visit Canada from August 21 to 23 and will discuss with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau issues related to supporting Ukraine, energy security, and its transitions, Ottawa announced on Saturday.
During his stay, the German Chancellor will visit Montreal, Toronto, as well as Stephenville in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Trudeau's office said in a statement that during their meeting in Montreal, the two leaders will address "their steadfast support for Ukraine" and the global repercussions of the "illegal and unjustified" Russian invasion of Ukraine.
They will also discuss combating climate change and ways to work together to "maintain energy security and accelerate the global transition to clean energy, especially by ensuring access to key resources such as clean hydrogen."
The two leaders will visit an exhibition related to hydrogen in Stephenville, an area in which Canada and Germany cooperate to promote the development of a clean economy. In Toronto, Trudeau is scheduled to give a speech at a Canadian-German business forum.
Ottawa approved last month the delivery to Germany of turbines repaired in Canada, which are considered essential for operating the "Nord Stream 1" pipeline to ease the energy crisis in Europe, a decision that Ukraine strongly criticized.
Scholz and Trudeau met in June on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Germany.
