The main Canadian stock index fell by about 100 points late in the morning trading as oil prices dropped and the energy and basic materials sectors retreated.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index fell 94.96 points to 20,084.85.
In New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 19.10 points to 33,741.95. The S&P 500 fell 9.42 points to 4,270.73, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 14.39 points to 13,032.80.
The Canadian dollar traded at 77.49 U.S. cents against 78.23 U.S. cents on Friday.
September crude oil dropped $3.81 to $88.28 per barrel, and September natural gas fell nine cents to $8.68.
December gold dropped $21.50 to $1,794.00 per ounce, and September copper fell seven cents to $3.60 per pound.
