Prominent nuclear experts in Israel and the United States warn against uranium enrichment on Saudi soil as part of a future agreement between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States, which may include normalization agreements between Israel and the Kingdom.
Senior former officials in the nuclear security field explained that if Israel does not object to the transfer of enrichment technologies to Saudi Arabia, the United States may backtrack and give the green light to a Saudi nuclear program in exchange for reaching "any agreement." According to them, this could anger other countries and prompt them to demand similar approval from the United States for their nuclear programs.
These warnings from experts come in response to a statement by Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer that Israel may not necessarily oppose a civilian nuclear program in Saudi Arabia, and he refused to answer a question about whether Israel opposes uranium enrichment in the Kingdom.
