Provincial health officials say no new virus-related deaths have been confirmed in the past 24 hours as mandatory COVID-19 vaccination and testing policies end at Ontario hospitals, long-term care homes, and schools.

For the second day in a row, the province has not released data on the number of COVID-19 patients receiving treatment in Ontario hospitals.

Officials said there are 228 COVID-19 patients in intensive care, unchanged from Sunday but down from 249 last Monday.

The COVID-19 death toll in Ontario remains unchanged at 12,256 with no new deaths reported today. This is the first time in nearly three months that no new deaths have been reported in the province.

The Ministry of Health recently removed death counts from the total provincial statistics after confirming that deaths unrelated to COVID-19 have been excluded since March 10; about 4 percent, or 489 deaths, have been removed from Ontario's cumulative total.

In the same context, officials have now pledged to detail deaths by "type of death," including whether COVID was the cause of death, contributed to the death, or if the cause of death is unknown or missing.

Another 1,116 COVID-19 cases were confirmed by provincial laboratories today, but this figure does not accurately reflect the true number of infections due to testing restrictions.

The province has not provided a breakdown of the vaccination status of the confirmed cases today.

With only 7,565 tests processed in the past 24 hours, officials reported a provincially positive rate of 12.1 percent, a slight increase from 11.8 percent last Monday.

As of today, the province has ended mandatory vaccination and testing policies in a number of public places, including hospitals, long-term care homes, and schools.

These facilities are able to implement their own policies regarding screening and vaccination if they choose to do so.

Next week, the province will also end mask mandates in most public places, including restaurants, retail stores, gyms, and cinemas.
