Muslims in Canada are celebrating today (Monday) the first day of Eid al-Fitr, which is the same day most Arab countries and some Islamic countries celebrate.
In the federal capital Ottawa, the Council of Imams in Ottawa and Gatineau said on the evening of the day before yesterday, Saturday, that the council, which includes mosque imams and officials of Islamic centers in the capital and its surroundings, did not confirm the sighting of the Shawwal crescent on Saturday evening and it was decided that Sunday is the completion of the month of Ramadan and that tomorrow (today, Monday) is the first day of Eid al-Fitr.
Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Qatar, Tunisia, Algeria, Sudan, and Yemen had announced the non-sighting of the Eid crescent on Saturday, and accordingly it was decided to complete the month of Ramadan for thirty days and celebrate Eid on Monday, May 2, 2022.
