Random COVID-19 tests for travelers who are considered fully vaccinated and who arrive in Canada by air through the four main international airports, from east to west Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver, will resume starting next Tuesday.

To be considered fully vaccinated, travelers must have received at least 14 days before entering Canada an initial series of a COVID-19 vaccine approved for travel by the Canadian government.

Travelers who are not considered fully vaccinated, unless exempt from the vaccine, must continue to undergo testing on the first and eighth days of a mandatory 14-day quarantine.

All COVID-19 tests for air travelers will be conducted outside airports, either in person at designated locations such as stores or pharmacies, or during a virtual appointment for a self-test.

Air travelers selected for mandatory random testing receive an email notification within 15 minutes of submitting their customs declaration.

The notification includes information to help them make the necessary arrangements to conduct the test with a provider in their area.

If the test result is positive, the traveler must isolate for 10 days from the date they receive the result, according to federal requirements.

Travelers must continue to use the ArriveCAN app or access this service online to provide mandatory travel information within 72 hours before their arrival by air to Canada or before boarding a cruise ship heading to Canada.

We must maintain border testing measures because this is how we monitor the entry of the virus responsible for COVID-19 and concerning variants of the virus."
