Bacteria were recently discovered in the Chinese city of Wuhan, causing a student to be infected with cholera and were found separately in samples of softshell turtles in a food market, raising concerns among the Chinese, and some linked the matter to COVID-19.
The local authorities said that the food market was disinfected, as samples of softshell turtles were found to contain cholera-causing bacteria.
Although no human cholera infections have been detected among those who came into contact with the softshell turtles, the authorities ordered the closure of the section that sells them in the market for 3 days.
The authorities pointed out that there is no link between the strain of bacteria that caused the student's cholera infection and the samples discovered in the food market.
The Disease Control Authority in the Hongshan area of Wuhan said officials are also tracking unspecified products from the same batch of softshell turtles that were transported to another location.
