Dozens of representatives from the American Democratic Party are seeking changes to the party's platform and plan to push for a ban on the supply of weapons to Israel this week.

This development could put the party on alert for possible attempts to boycott prominent speeches at its national convention in Chicago, according to the news site "Al Jazeera.net."

The pro-Palestinian group, which calls itself "Delegates Against Genocide," says it will exercise its rights to free speech during the key events of the four-day Democratic National Convention, starting today, Monday, to officially announce Vice President Kamala Harris's nomination for president in the November 5 elections against the Republican candidate and former President Donald Trump.

The group's organizers declined to provide details, but they said they would propose amendments to the party's platform and use their rights as delegates to speak in the convention hall.

The convention's agenda includes a speech by President Joe Biden today, Monday, and a speech by Vice President Harris on Thursday.

Pro-Palestinian delegates say they deserve a larger role in writing the party's platform.

The group wants to include a provision supporting the enforcement of laws that prohibit military assistance to individuals or security forces that commit gross human rights violations.

Business advisor and delegate Liano Sharon said, "We will make our voices heard," pointing out that freedom of expression necessarily includes the right to dissent and express opinions.

Along with Liano Sharon, the initiative includes 34 other delegates. Harris's campaign has refrained from commenting on the matter.
