The Moroccan Ministry of the Interior announced, in the early hours of Saturday morning, that the earthquake that struck the kingdom left at least 296 dead.
Previous reports from local media indicated that at least 30 people had been killed.
Earlier, a Moroccan official confirmed to Reuters that dozens of people had been killed as a result of the earthquake, most of them in areas that are difficult to access south of Marrakech.
