The Chief Medical Officer of Health in Ontario said that people at higher risk of COVID-19 infection should get the upcoming booster vaccine this spring.
Dr. Kieran Moore said that high-risk individuals include anyone aged 65 or older, pregnant women, and people living in senior care facilities, such as long-term care homes.
The list also includes people over 18 with immunodeficiency as well as First Nations or Inuit who are 55 or older and their non-Indigenous household members of the same age.
Moore added that people in these groups are advised to book an appointment this spring if at least six months have passed since their last COVID-19 vaccine or infection.
The Canadian Ministry of Health also said that people aged five and older who have not received a booster dose since September 1 are recommended to do so if at least six months have passed since their last infection.
Moore issued a report last month emphasizing Ontario's need to maintain public health readiness ahead of future pandemics.
