A mother from Montreal urged parents to warn their children after her daughter and two other elementary school students were hospitalized for eating cannabis candy found on the floor of their school bus this week.

The three young students, reported to be between six and seven years old, attend Franklin Hill Elementary School in the suburb of Repentigny located off the island.

Alexa Bando, whose daughter Zara ate the candy, said, "What I went through was very scary, it was horrifying to see my daughter in that condition."

In an interview with CTV News, she also urged parents to warn their children and tell them not to eat any strange products offered by others.

School principal Peter Papadias wrote in a letter to parents on Tuesday, "Yesterday, on one of our school trips, three students ate candy containing cannabis that they found lying on the floor of the school bus and ate it, and as a result, they were taken to the hospital."

Parents of the students on the bus were contacted immediately after being informed of the situation. He later told Le Journal, "I spoke to the parents who reported that they had recovered and returned home."

Papadias wrote that the school board is working with local police to investigate the situation. He said, "At this time, we do not know how the candy got on the bus," noting that "the police confirmed that this was an isolated incident."

The police stated in a statement that they cannot be completely sure whether the substance in the candy was cannabis or not.

Spokesperson Bruno Marier said, "The police cannot identify the substance in the candy because no analysis was conducted."

But he confirmed that the emergency doctor who examined the children "stated in turn that the symptoms could be due to the ingestion of some drugs in the form of candy."
