The Canadian government is preparing to raise the minimum wage in Canada to $17.30 per hour, starting from the beginning of April of the upcoming year 2024.
The federal government had raised the minimum wage at a similar time last year, to $16.65 instead of $15.55 per hour, and the value of the minimum wage increase
is according to consumer price indices, in the previous calendar year, and the Canadian Statistics Agency reported
in this regard that consumer prices increased at a rate reaching 3.9% on an annual average basis, in the year 2023.
The agency stated that the average annual increase in 2023 is the highest since 1991, except for the year 2022.
It is worth noting that many provinces follow the same approach in raising the minimum wage starting from the beginning of next April, including New Brunswick where the minimum wage reaches $15.30, Yukon $17.59, Newfoundland $15.60, Nova Scotia $15.20, and Prince Edward Island $15.40.
