The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies warned of a huge rise in the death toll from the floods in eastern Libya amid 10,000 missing.

Furthermore, the organization's official Tarek Ramadan told reporters in Geneva, "We do not have final figures" for the death toll at present, explaining that "the death toll is enormous and could reach into the thousands."

He confirmed that "the number of missing has reached about 10,000 people," expressing hope for more accurate figures later today.

Ramadan also stated while speaking from Tunisia that "humanitarian needs far exceed the capabilities of the Libyan Red Crescent and the government's capabilities," adding, "That is why the government in the east has launched a call for international assistance and we will also issue an urgent call soon."

The storm "Daniel" struck eastern Libya on Sunday afternoon, particularly affecting the coastal towns of Al Jabal Al Akhdar (northeast) alongside Benghazi, where a curfew has been announced and schools have been closed.
