The spokesperson for the Qatari Foreign Ministry, Majid bin Mohammed Al-Ansari, stated that Qatar does not intend to close the Hamas office in Doha, due to its importance in resolving the conflict.
Al-Ansari clarified in an interview with CNN that closing the Hamas office in Qatar at this stage is not an option, emphasizing the significance of negotiations aimed at releasing the hostages held in Gaza, and the efforts being made to de-escalate the situation.
He also pointed out that this channel of communication, "Hamas office in Doha," played a very important role in addressing the tensions that erupted last September, where discussions between Qatar and "Hamas" led to a reduction in hostilities after two weeks of ongoing clashes between the Palestinians and the occupation.
Al-Ansari stressed the importance of keeping this channel open to contribute to resolving the current conflict, saying: "This is the only way that gives us the opportunity to act as a mediator for the release of hostages and ensuring their safe return to their families."
He also emphasized that "this channel of communication cannot be allowed to be lost, as long as it is significant in achieving peace between the two parties."
He concluded that the continuation of the ground operation in the Gaza Strip has greatly complicated Doha's efforts to free the hostages held in Gaza.
