Canadian authorities have decided to ban the use of the social networking apps WeChat and Kaspersky programs on official phones of government employees.
The Canadian government statement said: "Today, Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand announced a ban on the use of WeChat and Kaspersky applications on government mobile devices."
The statement posted on the government website continued: "The decision comes into effect on October 30th, WeChat and Kaspersky applications will be removed from mobile devices in government institutions, and users will be prevented from downloading these apps in the future."
The statement pointed out that: "This measure was taken to ensure the security of government information and networks in Canada."
