Lebanese media confirmed, citing a responsible source, the Israeli accusations against Iran of building an airport in southern Lebanon to launch attacks against Israel.
The source states that the site can accommodate large drones, including armed ones, similar to those produced by Iran, according to the Lebanese channel "Al Jadid."
The source believes that the drones launched from the airport will mostly be used internally.
Defense Minister Yoav Galant accused Iran yesterday of establishing an airport in southern Lebanon, 20 kilometers (12 miles) from the Israeli border, which he claimed is used "for terrorist purposes" against Israelis.
On another front, Hezbollah's security forces arrested a man suspected of spying for Israel, according to a report published by the Lebanese newspaper Al Jadid.
The man, identified by the initials M.T.D, is in his thirties and hails from the town of Majdal Zoun, in the Tyre region of southern Lebanon, but according to village residents, he lives in Germany.
The report published yesterday states that he comes to Lebanon periodically, rents apartments and cars in the Tyre area, uses unregistered phone numbers, and provides specific site coordinates to his Israeli contacts.
Reports indicate that the man was arrested upon his arrival at Beirut airport by Hezbollah security agents.
On August 25, Lebanese authorities stated that they had arrested a couple at Beirut airport while they were attempting to flee the country, and they confessed to spying for Israel within the country.
Such allegations are regularly made, but their validity cannot be confirmed. Lebanese security agencies have arrested dozens of people over the years on suspicion of collaborating with Israel, and some have been sentenced to prison for up to 25 years.
Israel has never commented on such accusations.
