Nutrition experts have revealed a food substance that can replace potatoes in the diet, helping to reduce the level of harmful cholesterol in the blood.

The mk.ru website points out that potatoes, when prepared and consumed correctly with other foods, do not cause any harm to health or appearance. However, they can be replaced with sweet potatoes.

Nutrition experts suggest that potatoes, as a source of starch, help to feel full for a long time, thus preventing overeating. But this beneficial property is present in cold and unsalted potatoes without the need to add excess fats and sauces.

Experts add that potatoes contain vitamins B2, B3, B6, B9, C, antioxidants, and potassium. According to them, if desired, potatoes can be replaced with sweet potatoes, also called Kumara, which tastes similar to potatoes, although they belong to different plant families - potatoes belong to the nightshade family, and sweet potatoes belong to the Convolvulaceae family (morning glory family).

Sweet potatoes contain a high amount of antioxidants and vitamins A, E, C, K, which protect against viruses and are beneficial for the heart and bones.

Experts confirm that sweet potatoes help to get rid of harmful cholesterol, thanks to their very high dietary fiber content, which also helps improve digestive function and cleanse blood vessels from cholesterol plaques. In addition, sweet potatoes positively affect the nervous system and help improve memory and concentration. Sweet potatoes also contain complex carbohydrates, so consuming them does not cause a sudden spike in blood sugar levels.
