Ontario health officials reported 1,676 hospital admissions due to COVID-19 on Saturday along with 13 additional deaths.
Among these patients, 188 are being treated in intensive care. The majority of those admitted to the ICU - about 64 percent - are for COVID-19, while the remaining 36 percent tested positive after being admitted for other illnesses.
This brings the total number of people who have died after contracting COVID-19 in Ontario to 12,825.
With just over 16,800 tests processed in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Health says the positivity rate in the province is now about 13.8 percent.
Officials recorded 2,749 additional laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Saturday; despite testing restrictions, this figure is considered lower than the actual number.
