Leaders and countries congratulate Macron on his re-election as President of France

Several countries and international institutions congratulated Emmanuel Macron on his re-election as President of France for a second term today, Sunday, after his victory over far-right candidate Marine Le Pen in the second round of the presidential elections.

Macron (44 years old) was elected today for a second term, after obtaining 58 percent of the votes, compared to 42 percent for candidate Le Pen (53 years old), according to preliminary results.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, said: "I congratulate Macron on his re-election, and I look forward to continuing our cooperation together. We will work to push France and Europe forward."

The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, also congratulated the French president, adding: "In these turbulent times, we need a strong Europe and a France fully committed to a more sovereign and strategic European Union."

He concluded his tweet on Twitter by saying: "We can count on France for another 5 years."

For his part, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi considered Macron’s re-election "great news for all of Europe."

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson expressed his "pleasure in continuing to work" with Macron after his re-election.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda said: "We wish Macron strength in leading France in these difficult times for all European countries."

As for Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, he said on his Twitter account: "Warm congratulations on Macron’s re-election, and we are pleased to continue cooperation within the framework of the European Union and NATO."

Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala also said: "Congratulations on Macron’s re-election. France is a vital partner and we are keen to further develop our relations."

Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo welcomed Macron’s re-election as President of France and said that the French have "made a strong choice and chose certainty and the values of the Enlightenment."

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz congratulated French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday on his victory in the presidential elections, considering that those who voted for him sent a "strong signal in favor of Europe."

He wrote on Twitter in French "Congratulations," and continued in German saying "Congratulations, dear President Emmanuel Macron. Your voters sent a strong signal today in favor of Europe. I am happy that we will continue our good cooperation!"

German Finance Minister Christian Lindner also said that Macron's victory makes European unity the biggest winner in the French elections.

He added: "This choice was about directions and fundamental issues concerning values."

Arab Congratulations

In the Arab region, the President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas congratulated on Sunday evening French President Emmanuel Macron on his re-election as President of the French Republic for a new term.

In a congratulatory cable, he said: "We are pleased to extend to Your Excellency and the friendly French people the highest expressions of heartfelt congratulations, on behalf of the State and people of Palestine and myself personally, on your re-election as President of the French Republic for a new term; wishing Your Excellency success and good fortune in continuing to lead your country and people toward achieving the objectives and aspirations you aim for, and preserving the established principles of the French Republic."

For his part, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, congratulated Emmanuel Macron on Sunday on his re-election as President of France for a second term.

Mohammed bin Zayed said in a tweet on his official Twitter account: "Sincere congratulations to my friend Emmanuel Macron on his re-election as President of France, and the sincerest wishes from the United Arab Emirates to France and its friendly people for continued progress and prosperity."

He added: "We look forward together to strengthening our strategic partnership and enhancing new opportunities for joint cooperation."

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi also congratulated his French counterpart on his victory in the presidential elections for a new term, wishing him to continue his journey and lead his country to further progress and prosperity.

Sisi said via Twitter: "I affirm that Egyptian-French relations have been and remain historical, close, and growing relations, and we look forward to continuing consultations and mutual coordination on a number of regional and international files of common interest."

On his part, Iraqi President Barham Salih said on Twitter: "I congratulate President Emmanuel Macron on his re-election as President of France, an important partner of Iraq.

I wish him success and the French people progress and prosperity. This occasion confirms the depth of the relations between the two friendly peoples, and we look forward to strengthening them in a way that serves mutual interests and establishes security and stability in the region."
