The Danish police said several people were killed on Sunday in a shooting at a shopping center in the Danish capital, Copenhagen.

Police chief Søren Thomassen said a 22-year-old Danish man connected to the attack was arrested.

He said the motive was unclear but did not rule out terrorism.
The police have not yet determined the number of victims or their condition.

Speaking at a press conference, Thomassen said it was too early to determine the number of people injured in the attack.

But he told reporters there was no indication of others being involved.

Eyewitnesses spoke of panic among shoppers as gunfire echoed inside the Fields shopping center in the south of the city.
Copenhagen Mayor Sophie Andersen wrote on Twitter, "We do not yet know the number of injured or dead but it is very serious."

Emily Jepsen told Jyllands-Posten newspaper: "You did not know what was happening. Suddenly chaos broke out everywhere."
Another witness, Mehdi Al-Wazni, told Channel Two television that the shooter was carrying a "hunting rifle".

Security personnel cordoned off the shopping center, blocked the roads leading to it, and metro traffic was stopped with a helicopter flying over the area, according to a correspondent for Agence France-Presse at the scene.

Fields is the largest shopping center in Denmark, housing more than 140 stores and restaurants.
British singer Harry Styles was scheduled to perform at a venue less than a mile from the shopping center later on Sunday evening.
Organizers wrote on Facebook that the concert would take place after close coordination with the local police.
