A number of former employees filed a lawsuit against the electronic platform "Twitter" and obligated it to pay an amount of about 500 million dollars as compensation for the employees who were laid off by Elon Musk after his acquisition of the site.
The American channel "Alhurra" explained that Courtney McMillian, the supervisor of employee benefits on the electronic platform, was the one who filed the lawsuit in coordination with the employees in the federal "San Francisco" court, pointing out that in 2019 most workers were promised two months of their basic salary, in addition to one week's pay for each full year of service if they were laid off.
Alhurra channel continued, stating that the lawsuit is based on the fact that most of the laid-off employees are elderly like "McMillian," and therefore they deserve 6 months of basic salary, but the electronic institution rejects this and gave them only one month of salary as severance compensation, and no one else received any compensation.
Alhurra reported that the company "Twitter" laid off more than half of its employees in order to reduce costs on the platform, after Musk acquired the company in October 2022. The lawsuit included accusations against both "Twitter" and its owner of violating a federal law that regulates employee benefit plans.
A lawsuit had previously been filed against "Twitter" because of its alleged failure to pay severance compensation to laid-off employees, allegations the company denies. The company also faces a series of other lawsuits resulting from layoffs that began last year, including allegations that it targeted women and employees with disabilities, which "Twitter" denied committing any violations.
