The World Food Program in Afghanistan stated that the country ranked second in the world for countries facing hunger, with over a million of its residents suffering from emergency hunger rates.
The program added in a post on its social media account on X that at least 6.8 million people in Afghanistan are facing "phase four" hunger, according to Afghan television channel "Tolo News" on Sunday.
Wahidullah Amani, one of the program's spokespersons, said that the program was forced to cut its aid from 13 million to 2 million dollars.
He added, "The program faced a budget shortfall this month, and we had to cut an additional 2 million dollars from our aid list. This means we can only help three million people."
However, the Islamic Emirate mentioned that the budget shortfall of relief organizations is due to an increase in poverty worldwide.
The world is now threatened by poverty. The West and other countries that were also supporting these organizations are facing poverty issues.
Economists noted that poverty and unemployment rates have increased compared to previous levels, and there is a need for countries and international organizations to continue their assistance to the people of Afghanistan.
