King Charles III attended church on Sunday for the first time since being diagnosed with cancer.

Charles walked beside Queen Camilla and arrived at St Mary Magdalene Church, near the Sandringham home in eastern England, where he retreated to recover after his first treatment for an unspecified type of cancer.

This appearance came a day after he expressed his gratitude for the messages of support he received from the public. In a statement issued late on Saturday, the King said such thoughts are “the greatest comfort and encouragement.”

“It is also encouraging to hear how sharing my diagnosis has helped to enhance public understanding and highlight the work of all organizations supporting cancer patients and their families across the UK and the wider world.”

“My lifelong admiration for their care and tireless dedication is the result of my personal experience.”

Buckingham Palace announced the diagnosis on Monday. Charles was last seen on Tuesday when he left his home at Clarence House in London after beginning his treatment.
