Prime Minister Justin Trudeau finally left India today, Tuesday, after technical problems with the government plane delayed his departure by two days.
Trudeau and the Canadian delegation attending the G20 summit in New Delhi were scheduled to leave for Ottawa on Sunday, but the plane was grounded due to an issue discovered during pre-flight checks.
The CC-150 Polaris aircraft, part of a fleet that entered service in the early 1990s, has faced issues in recent years and is set to be replaced later this fall.
After the problem was discovered, the Royal Canadian Air Force sent a technician to India equipped with spare parts and dispatched a backup aircraft in case it was needed. The technician was able to resolve the issue on the original plane.
For security reasons, the Prime Minister does not travel commercially.
The Liberal gathering will also hold a three-day retreat in London, Ontario, starting Tuesday, and Trudeau is expected to attend.
