Dozens of London Drugs stores in Western Canada have remained closed for the fourth consecutive day following a "cybersecurity-related incident."
While a spokesperson for the company initially said they hoped to have an update by Wednesday morning, they later stated that the company "has no updates to share." Instead, the company expressed disappointment about its statement issued on Tuesday, which said that the stores “remain temporarily closed.”
The London Drugs management unexpectedly closed all locations in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba after discovering the cyberattack on Sunday.
On Tuesday, the retailer stated that personal data may have been compromised in the incident, which is a reversal of a previous statement indicating that the company had no reason to believe that any of that personal information had been breached.
The company confirmed that it will notify any affected individuals, in accordance with privacy laws, if its investigation determines that personal information was impacted.
Clint Mahlman, President of London Drugs, stated in the repeated statement: "Acknowledging the impact of these closures on our customers and employees across Western Canada, our priority remains to work around the clock until all stores are back to full operation," "We appreciate everyone’s patience and support during this extremely difficult time and will provide updates as they become available."
London Drugs operates more than 80 stores throughout Western Canada. So far, the retailer based in British Columbia has not provided a timeline for when its stores may reopen. However, the company stated that to assist those with urgent medical needs, pharmacy staff remain at London Drugs locations. Phone lines are out of service as part of the investigation, so customers are advised to visit their local store in person if they need support at the pharmacy.
