The commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Hossein Salami, said that Israel relies on a defensive system with limited capabilities and "cannot be trusted."

The Tasnim news agency, affiliated with the Revolutionary Guard, quoted Salami addressing the Israelis: "Do not trust the THAAD system. You depend on a limited defensive system."

Salami was speaking at a conference in Kermanshah province, dedicating a large part of his speech to attacking Israel, which he predicted would "strangely collapse its system," according to his expression.

Salami said: "Israel is a small country whose economy relies on the sea by 98 percent. Therefore, it should think more. Foolish decisions can lead to the rapid downfall of the system."

He added: "Israel is committing suicide (...) When a power wants to collapse, it usually prepares the ground for its downfall, and today Israel is gradually digging a grave to bury itself in."

Salami's remarks about the THAAD system came a day after reports about a "deal" offered by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Israel to postpone a strike against Iran.

At the beginning of the week, the United States announced the deployment of the THAAD missile system in Israel, reinforced with an American military crew, to help enhance its air defenses following a missile attack from Iran on October 1 of this month.

Washington had previously deployed a THAAD battery in Israel in 2019 for comprehensive air defense exercises, and reports indicate that Tel Aviv may request another battery with its crew, as the risks of conflict escalate.
