A bomb attack resulted in the death of 11 construction workers in northwest Pakistan near the border with Afghanistan, announced Rahman Gul Khattak, the government official in North Waziristan, on Sunday.

According to Khattak, the workers, who were building a new site for the Pakistani army, were killed last night, Saturday, by an explosion of a bomb placed in their vehicle.

For his part, Amir Muhammad Khan, a senior official in the region's police, confirmed the explosion and the number of fatalities.

The interim Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar stated that "it is devastating to hear the news of the terrorist attack that took place in North Waziristan and claimed the lives of 11 innocent workers."

He also added in a post on the "X" platform (formerly Twitter): "We strongly condemn this senseless violence and express our solidarity with the affected families."

North Waziristan is one of the tribal areas that enjoyed semi-autonomous governance and is located in northwest Pakistan, where the army has conducted several operations against militants linked to al-Qaeda and the Taliban since the United States invaded Afghanistan in 2001. Pakistan has witnessed a significant increase in the number of attacks since the Taliban returned to power in neighboring Afghanistan in 2021.
