If you are someone who loves warm weather, tax-free salaries, and enjoying golden beaches, moving to Dubai might be an attractive option for you.
In fact, there is no doubt that Dubai is one of the best cities in the United Arab Emirates, especially for newcomers, and it is characterized by the diversity of its population.
There are many commonalities between Dubai and the major cities in Canada, from nightlife to upscale and diverse restaurants, to the variety of nationalities and entertainment activities.
Therefore, it is important to know why Dubai is ideal for Canadians:
Tax-exempt income:
The United Arab Emirates is one of the few countries in the world that has no income tax. However, Canadians living and working in Dubai may still be responsible for paying tax on their foreign income to Canada.
Warm weather:
If you are a fan of warm weather, Dubai is distinguished by this weather. In winter (usually from November to February), temperatures remain between 10 to 25 degrees, although they may occasionally drop below 10 degrees on some cold evenings.
Cost of living:
Dubai is known as an expensive city.
However, according to the Numbeo website for comparing cost of living, the local purchasing power in Dubai is 33.5% higher than Toronto, and 26% higher than Vancouver.
This is due to several factors, including higher salaries in Dubai, no income taxes, and lower grocery prices. Even rent prices differ significantly; according to Numbeo, there is very little difference in rental prices if you live in the city center, but prices drop significantly in Dubai if you move away from the city center.
Annual vacation:
In the United Arab Emirates, employees are entitled to a fully paid annual leave of at least 30 days if they complete one year of service with the company, and two days per month if they complete six months of service.
This does not include official holidays such as Eid holidays, National Day, and New Year's Day.
Central location:
You can visit a large number of countries in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East from Dubai, with cheap flights easily available in less than five hours, including Oman, India, Sri Lanka, Georgia, Turkey, Lebanon, Armenia, and others.
It is also not difficult to reach most European countries – and even the United Kingdom – because Dubai is somewhat an aviation hub.
Diversity:
Dubai includes more than 200 nationalities, which means you have the opportunity to work and meet people from all over the world.
Food:
While the local food in the United Arab Emirates is Emirati cuisine, you will also find all other options – from Peruvian and Indian dishes to Balkan and classic Middle Eastern dishes.
Safety:
Dubai is regularly ranked as one of the safest cities in the world. According to a 2023 report by Numbeo, it was voted the seventh safest city in the world in 2023, with rankings based on factors such as how safe residents feel walking at night, and how concerned they are about being robbed.
