Norfolk is preparing to welcome large crowds as motorcycle enthusiasts flock to Port Dover in Ontario on Friday the thirteenth.
Between 35,000 and 45,000 motorcycle enthusiasts attended the unauthorized event in 2021, a significantly lower number than the 100,000 visitors before the COVID-19 pandemic.
As of 12 noon, the OPP estimated that more than 100,000 people were already in Port Dover with more expected to arrive throughout the day.
The following roads will be closed on Friday from 3 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.:
Nelson St. East (from St. Patrick to Hwy. 24)
Greenock St. West (from St. George to Richardson Drive)
Richardson Drive (from Nelson St. West to Greenock St.)
These roads will be closed starting Friday until Saturday at 4 a.m.:
Main St. (from Clifford St. to Walker St.)
Market St. East (from Main St. to St. Andrew St.)
Market St. West (from St. George St. to Main St.)
Park St.
The only exceptions will be for emergency and service vehicles. The province also said there will be no staggered or required permits for residents this year.
There will also be no shuttle service offered, and Provincial Police will also be out on the roads and in Port Dover on Friday.
In 2021, two collisions occurred on Highway 6 between motorcycles believed to be heading to the parade.
One of those was a motorcyclist who was killed in Hagersville. Police also responded to crash incidents in Norfolk County and Elgin County.
They told CTV News in 2021 that the majority of these collisions were not caused by motorcycle operators. The OPP also released a video containing safety alerts for motorcycle riders.
