The IRCC Strike finally ends and employees have been notified to return to work starting May 1, 2023.

For more than 120,000 employees salaried by the Treasury Board providing vital services to Canadians, the PSAC union has reached tentative agreements with the government.

Members of the bargaining units in the PSAC union and SV, TC, and EB (which includes IRCC employees) will report to work starting May 1 at 9 a.m. Eastern Time as the federal government employees' strike ends.

Today, we will see the return of IRCC employees to work, which will resume processing of pending immigration, refugee, and citizenship files.

Other important services that were suspended due to the strike, such as passports and other non-essential government functions, will also resume.

Processing of applications, citizenship ceremonies, and in-person appointments may experience delays due to the backlog of work accumulated for more than a week.

But the good news is that the IRCC strike is over.

However, 35,000 members of the Canada Revenue Agency remain on strike across the country as of May 1, with negotiations resuming under a new mandate from the Canada Revenue Agency to reach a fair contract.

Over the term of the agreement, from 2021 to 2024, the PSAC union negotiated wage increases totaling a compounded 12.6%.
