The Derna Security Directorate announced a curfew in the city starting from 7 PM on Sunday until 8 AM this Monday, as part of dealing with the repercussions of the severe weather affecting the country.

This was stated in a statement by the Director of Derna Security, Major General Embarak Mustafa Bouharara, who clarified that bakeries, hospitals, pharmacies, health centers and units, and fuel stations are exempted from the curfew order.

The security director called on all citizens not to leave their homes and to follow the instructions, in order to protect their lives and properties.

Earlier on Sunday, the Derna Security Directorate announced the evacuation of residents living in areas close to the beach and valleys, and places for rainwater drainage to ensure their safety.

The heavy rains resulting from “Storm Daniel” caused a tremendous flow of water in the Derna valley, which divides the city into two halves.

Videos documented a terrifying flow of floods in the valley that runs through the middle of Derna, causing several cars parked on both sides of the valley to drown.

Wide areas of northeastern Libya are experiencing a wave of floods and torrents, and the floods caused by heavy rains have submerged several areas in Al-Marj, Takens, and Al-Bayda, after being hit by “Storm Daniel.”

The mayor of Al-Bayda, Safy Al-Din Heba, announced on Sunday that the situation has become out of control due to the raging floods hitting the city since Sunday morning.

Heba stated in a statement, “We regret to announce that the situation has completely gone out of control, and we call on all governments and officials for swift and urgent intervention to save what can be saved.”
