Many relief organizations in Ukraine reported that a Canadian volunteer aid worker was killed this weekend due to a Russian attack.

In a post on Instagram, the humanitarian group Road to Relief stated that Anthony "Tounko" Ihnat was killed while traveling in a vehicle with three other volunteers from the organization.

The group added that they were on their way to check on civilians in the town of Ivanivske in the Bakhmut region when their vehicle came under Russian fire.

The post noted that German medical volunteer Ruben Maweke and Swedish volunteer Johan Mathias Ther were seriously injured and were taken to the hospital, while the condition of Spanish volunteer and team leader Emma Igual remains unknown.

However, Spain's acting Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares told Spanish media that authorities in Madrid had received "verbal confirmation" of the death of 32-year-old Igual.

The LinkedIn page of Road to Relief stated that the group was founded in March 2022 to help people in Ukraine escape war-affected areas.
